Star (*) Codes

What are Star Codes and how do they work?

Star (*) Codes refer to codes diallable by customer CPE that commence with the * character on the keypad and are followed by 3 or more digits.

Star codes are used for voice calling and are not used for text messages (SMS).

Allocation of codes beginning with a star or a hash used for voice calling are not managed by the NAD.

Management of star codes is carried out by the individual telecommunication companies.  Although some star codes are intra-network, others are applicable across multiple networks, and their allocation requires coordination between all relevant networks.

End users wishing to obtain a star code for use should talk with their telecommunications provider.
